biography

Jamie Louisa is a Miami based oil painter. While she has pursued the arts since childhood, her professional painting journey began at New World School of the Arts in 2020. Jamie Louisa’s education began as a fashion design student at Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy. During her second year of fashion school she attended Marist University in Poughkeepsie, New York. It was at this time Jamie Louisa began shifting her focus. She left New York then moved to Miami in order to attend NWSA and pursue a painting career. During her time at NWSA she received traditional training in oil painting techniques and continued studying the human form. Jamie Louisa’s passion for the figure has continued throughout her painting journey.

statement

Jamie Louisa’s artistic style brings a feeling of nostalgia to her viewers while romanticizing small moments in life. The subject matter, use of color, experimental edges, transitions, and movement in her work makes the viewer feel as if they are viewing a memory caught in time. She describes her chosen subject matter as “little things we cannot live without,” encouraging herself and others to live slowly in order to appreciate and truly connect with the little moments in our lives.

“Trauma from my past has resulted in my hyper vigilance, which has made it almost impossible for me to truly feel present in my life. Through my paintings I try to live out these beautiful and candid moments that life has to offer. These are the parts of life that make it worth living. I’m on a healing journey to let go of my overactive mind, in order to feel present in the moment. I think a lot of other people can relate to this feeling.” -Jamie Louisa
